Camelot Alpacas began in 1992 in Southern NSW. One pregnant female and two companion wethers, imported from Chile via New Zealand, were purchased from Benleigh Alpaca Stud. Progress was gradual with only one breeding female and a predominance of male cria in the early years. In 1994 we relocated to the Macedon Ranges of Victoria. In the years afterward, two females were purchased from Jolimont Alpacas' first Peruvian shipment. We were fortunate to be able to choose a female from Don Julio Barreda's Accoyo herd and the other from the Alianza Huaripina herd. These girls dramatically lifted the quality of our cria and accelerated our progress toward breeding superior fleece types. From this foundation we continued to develop a small herd of high quality alpacas that received awards at regional, state and national levels. In 2012 after 20 years, we decided to cease breeding and concentrate on family matters. Thank you to all who have purchased our breeding stock, who have helped us along the way and offered some very special friendships. Andrew and Julien Nicolas |
